Yard Sale Safety
Yard sales are fun, and a great way to make
money, but don't let a good idea turn into a bad day. Here are a few tips on how
to have a safe yard sale:
- Have
enough help to keep track of all the people and your property. If someone
steals your stuff, don't risk confrontation. It's not worth getting injured,
just call the police.
- Don't
keep a lot of money on you. Have $20 in change and lock the rest in the
house.
- Keep
your most expensive items together and near you. In some cases, you may want
to display a picture and only display the item upon request.
- Make
sure your house and garage are secure. Someone may try to sneak in a back
door while you're busy elsewhere.
- Don't
display items or extension cords that could cause someone to trip and fall.
- And
finally, don't sell any items that are marked with your social security
number. Check for money and important papers in purses and clothes before
you set them out.
