The Hubbard Township Police Department is proud to welcome a new member to our family.  This new member is TROOPER, our Department's new K-9 unit.  This young black Labrador Retriever, a gift from the Lawrence County Animal Shelter, was sworn into commission in May 1999 at which time he underwent months of rigorous training at the Paul Piergiovanni School for Dogs.   Trooper has been specially trained in tracking and narcotics detection.

Patrolman Bill Greene, Trooper's new handler, partner and best friend describes the training that was taught to Trooper as being a game.  Dogs that are naturally high spirited and energetic like Trooper, do better at playing the game, and therefore are better at getting the job done.  Ptl. Greene explains that although Trooper is still a little young and wet behind the ears, he feels that his partner will blossom into a great asset to the township.

In his first few months of active duty, Trooper has made several internal locker searches at area schools and has aided the Champion Police and the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department with searches of the Trumbull County Joint Vocational School.  Trooper has already performed numerous demonstrations for schools and organizations in the Hubbard community.  If your school or organization is interested in hosting a demonstration by Ptl Greene and Trooper you are urged to contact Chief Todd Coonce during the normal Police Department business hours of M-F 9am-5pm 330-534-8477.
